About the Department of Informatics and Computers

The Department of Informatics and Computers at the Faculty of Science, University of Ostrava, provides tuition in the following study programmes:

  • Bachelor programmes: Informatics, Informatics and Computer Technology – Applied Informatics, Applied Informatics, Informatics (in combination with another major),
  • follow-up Master’s programmes: Information Systems, Mathematical Informatics, Teaching Informatics for Elementary and Secondary Schools (single major and in combination with another major),
  • doctoral programme: Information Systems.

Students of informatics and applied informatics obtain wide-ranging, universal tuition in a constantly developing area of informatics and computer technology. Graduates will be equipped to work in both the private and public sectors and in the educational system.

Tuition takes place as full-time, combined (part-distance), and distance studies (via e-learning). Students can make use of well-equipped computer classrooms, a classroom specializing in computer graphics, and a 3D graphics centre. They can use the free WiFi connection within the University buildings, the study information system, courses run in the LMS Moodle, or records of lectures in the MediaSite system.

Students can attend Cisco Networking Academy courses and the MAYA course at reduced cost. The Department enables people with special needs to study and the University offers free sports activities to all students.

Within the University’s range of lifelong learning and supplementary teacher training programmes, the Department offers specialized and supplementary studies both for teachers and the general public.

The members of the Department are involved in a range of EU projects.

There are several courses at the Department of Informatics and Computers taught in English. Such courses are held on an individual basis, i.e. study is based on existing text-based and multimedia courses that are supplemented with tutorials and consultations.
