The Dean of the Faculty of Science of the University of Ostrava announces a job vacancy at the Department of Physics
- Assistant Professor in Computational Chemical Physics
Expected start date
- 1st of January, 2024 (or by agreement)
Estimated amount of work
- 25 % (or by agreement)
Qualifications and other requirements
- University education at the III. level, at least 5 years of experience in research
- Ph.D. in the field of chemical physics, solid-state physics, materials science, or a related physical science field (in the case of Ph.D. degree obtain abroad, recognition of the foreign university degree will be required)
- English at least at the B2 level
- EU research level: R3 – Established/R4 – Leading (research group)
- Long-term achievement of outstanding scientific performance in the area of computational chemical physics, solid-state physics, or a related field (representation as the first or corresponding author in top journals in the respective field; at the start date, at least 35 publications in impact factor journals and an H-index of at least 15 according to WoS)
- Experience in supervising Ph.D. students (at least one successful graduate), master's theses, and doctoral course subjects
- Experience in designing scientific projects (at least one successfully resolved project from a national grant agency or an equivalent level as the principal investigator)
- Communication in Czech at least at the B1 level
Job Description/Responsibilities
- Independent solving of complex scientific research and development tasks in the field of computational chemical physics and the development of stochastic computational methodologies
- Collaboration within a research team and with foreign researchers
- Initiation and coordination of research projects
- Active publication activities
- Supervision of doctoral and master's theses, potentially mentoring junior staff, and participating in thesis evaluations
- Teaching doctoral courses in the areas of Monte Carlo methods, many-particle methods, and quantum molecular theory, as well as contributing to the instruction of courses in related master's programs

The first round of the selection procedure will take place without the personal presence of the candidates by the assessment of the submitted materials by the selecion committee.
The Dean of the Faculty reserves the right to invite only selected candidates to a personal meeting and also the right not to select any candidate. The selection procedure may be cancelled or repeated at the initiative of the Dean of the Faculty.
