Position Summary

We invite applications for a Postdoctoral Researcher position in the field of remote sensing of landslides. The successful candidate will join a research team of Prof. Tomas Panek with a long history of research in landslide science. Our team is particularly concerned with large landslides and their origin in the context of Quaternary climate changes and the geomorphological evolution of mountain belts. This position offers an excellent opportunity for a highly motivated individual to contribute to ground-breaking research in this area. This position is related to the research project Natural and Anthropogenic Geohazards, reg. No. CZ.02.01.01/00/22_008/0004605.

Expected start date

  • 1st August or 1st September, 2024 (or by agreement)

Estimated workload

  • 1 vacancy at 1.0 FTE
  • 3-year fixed term contract with 1 year extension

Job Description/Key Responsibilities

  • Conducting advanced research in landslide science and hillslope geomorphology
  • Collaborating with a multidisciplinary team of researchers
  • Publishing research findings in high impact peer-reviewed journals
  • Participating in and presenting at international conferences

Qualifications and other requirements

  • Ph.D. in Geomorphology, Geology, Earth Science, or a related field (for Ph.D. degree obtained abroad, recognition of the foreign university degree will be required)
  • Strong proficiency in English (both written and spoken)
  • A track record of first-author publications in peer-reviewed journals
  • EU research level: R2 – Recognized
  • Work experience in the field or PhD studies outside the Czech Republic
  • Strong background in landslide science
  • Skills in remote sensing analysis of both optical and radar imagery (InSAR, etc.)
  • Basic knowledge of numerical modelling of landslides, their dating and mapping
  • Proficiency in statistical methods and GIS
  • Ability to work effectively in a team environment
