The field trip will be directed to the selected areas of the Upper Silesian Industrial Region (the largest conurbation in central Europe). Deep underground mining has been going on here since the 1850s. The area is characterized by intense devastation of many landscape elements, caused mainly by black coal mining and iron metallurgy. Underground mining has contributed to many changes in the lithosphere, hydrosphere, atmosphere, biosphere and soil cover.
