Job description

  • Leader of a newly established research group in virology at the Department of Biology and Ecology, Faculty of Science, University of Ostrava; formally as an "excellent worker" of the research program "Molecular biology a genomics" in the project LERCO
  • Building the new team (recruiting and supervising at least one postdoc and at least one PhD student)
  • Contributing to the deliverables of the project LERCO: publishing papers in scientific journals, participation at the preparation of a new study specialization in genomics and bioinformatics
  • Defining an ambitious research program in virology and generating new original results and knowledge in the field
  • Collaborating with other teams at the Department of Biology and Ecology or within the project LERCO

Qualification requirements – required

  • Ph.D. in virology, microbiology, molecular biology, genomics, bioinformatics, or a related field. For Ph.D. degree obtained abroad, a recognition/certification of the foreign university degree will be required
  • At least a three-year experience as a postdoc/senior researcher at a respected academic institution
  • Current position at an institution outside the Czech Republic
  • Substantial publication record with: at least 15 papers in journals tracked in the Web of Science (WoS) database, at least 10 of them related in the field of virology, at least four of them as the first or corresponding author, at least five papers in high-profile journals (the impact factor >8), H-index (according to the WOS) at least 8
  • Fluent English

  • 31 January 2027, with a presumed extension by three more ears and a possibility of tenure (permanent position)

Information about the selection procedure

The first round of the selection procedure will take place without the personal presence of the candidates by the assessment of the submitted materials by the selection committee.

The Dean of the Faculty reserves the right to invite only selected candidates to a personal meeting and also the right not to select any candidate. The selection procedure may be cancelled or repeated at the initiative of the Dean of the Faculty.
