Resolutions from the meeting of the Academic Senate of the FS UO dated June 18, 2026

At the meeting of the Academic Senate of the Faculty of Science (AS FS) at the University of Ostrava (UO) on June 18, 2026, the following resolutions were adopted:

  • The AS FS UO approves the planned program of the meeting.
  • The AS FS UO announces the election of the Dean of the FS UO for the 2027–2031 election period, approves the schedule for the election of the Dean and the requirements for the proposal of the candidate for Dean.
  • The AS FS UO approves the distribution of the Faculty's financial resources for 2026 according to the submitted proposal.
  • The AS FS UO supports the resolution of the Council of Universities of May 21, 2026 on the draft substantive plan of the new Higher Education Act.
  • The AS FS UO joins the position of the AS OU, is aware of the need to modernize Czech higher education in the areas of financing, quality assurance and accreditation. It points out that the long-term underfunding of the higher education sector (compared to the average of OECD countries) cannot be replaced by organizational changes aimed at limiting academic self-government.
  • The AS FS UO joins the position of the AS OU and disagrees with the initial theses of the Ministry of Education, Youth and Sports in the area of higher education governance, especially those that address collective irresponsibility, the role of students in senates, introspection or insufficient professionalization of university management.
  • The AS FS UO joins the position of the AS OU and disagrees with the planned limitation of the autonomy of higher education institutions, which is related to the weakening or abolition of academic self-government, and perceives the risk of politicization of Czech higher education.
  • The AS FS UO joins the position of the AS OU and disagrees with increasing the direct influence of the Ministry of Education, Youth and Sports on the governance of higher education institutions through newly established top bodies with a significant share of external representatives.
  • The AS FS UO joins the position of the AS OU and authorizes its representatives in the representations of higher education institutions to defend academic self-government and the principles of academic freedoms in higher education.
