Annotation:
The aim is to study modern Japan from the perspectives of political geography, international relations and East Asian studies. The course offers a cross-sectional view of Japanese political and geographical realities in the East(ern) Asian region within the historical and contemporary contexts of Northeast and Southeast Asia. Its content draws on the literature of eminent scholars. It incorporates themes from East Asian area and Japanese studies and provides an introduction to East Asia on a regional and global scale. The foci are chapters on history, politics, economics, society, international relations, cooperation and geopolitics, history and geopolitics, geoeconomics, and foreign policy from modern history toward the 21st century.
