Field trip

We are preparing for you a full-day field trip focusing on Geomorphic evolution of Outer Western Carpathians in the Holocene.

The transport will be organised via participant’s cars. We will take care of the participants without the car.

  1. Viewpoint Horní Bečva – Spectacular and scary skywalk in the upper part of the abandoned sandstone quarry – view into the Rožnovská brázda Furrow
  2. Lučovec landslide dam and related deposits – Dating of Holocene mass movements (2x 1.7 km walking)
  3. Černá Ostravice River terraces – Landscape changes revealed in Holocene fluvial terraces (2x 0.5 km walking)
  4. Soláň landslide – Multidisciplinary approach to study recent complex landslides
  5. Rožnovská Bečva River – Attempts to decrease flood risk by gravel bar management in urbanised area

May in the Czech Republic is a typical spring month where the sun rises high, and the temperature is up to 20°C. The weather is not constant in May and is characterized by high variability. For May 2022 weather, we expect temperatures to be below average and average for precipitation.

Daily average temperatures in May: 16 to 20°C
Nightly average temperatures in May: 3 to 8°C

The field trip will be held in case of any weather. We recommend to check the forecast before your trip. In case of bad weather forecast, good boots, warm clothes and umbrellas or raincoats are recommended.
