AnotationCentral European old industrial regions undergone in globalized economy dramatical processes of transformation and restructuring. They are facing strong external competition of other industrial regions resulting in economic decline. Such regions suffer from endogenous barriers as well, which could be conceptualized as negative path dependency and weak economic governance. The main aim of the research project is to explore the main drivers of long-term paths development of most significant traditional branches from multiscale perspectives. Moreover, the paths development research of selected branches will take into account the differentiating role of governance, actors, institutions and place leadership generating policy initiatives with different impact on paths development. In order to reach our research goals combined methodology will be used: mix of quantitative and qualitative approaches, methods and techniques. Our theoretical contribution will be critical reflection of concepts such as lock-ins etc. Practical contribution will be the formulation of policy recommendations.
